Reel Voices

October 28th, 2009

Every future Oscar winner got their start somewhere. Last weekend, San Diegans were able to see budding talent take their first shot at greatness. The Reel Voices section of the San Diego Asian Film Festival selected eight original documentary films produced and directed by high school film students. The films were each uniquely inspired and offered a rare youthful perspective on music, family relationships, race relations, dance and more. The event was just the beginning; the student films will be entered in a series of larger film festivals where future Steven Spielbergs will compete for college scholarships as well as the attention of film executives. NeuroSonic kept everyone at the festival excited and gave the mental performance boost that kept aspiring filmmakers focused and alert through the tedious edits and re-edits involved in filmmaking. All of the films were met with praise and it was a wonderful opportunity to jump-start the careers of some of San Diego’s brightest rising stars.
