Work of Art

November 6th, 2009

Leave it to London to fill a void in art culture with The Museum of Everything. Maybe the most unique concept to ever manifest itself, The Museum of Everything which opened last month, bills itself as “London’s First Ever Space for Artists and Creators Living Outside Our Modern Society.” This new art venue in Primrose Hill is dedicated to the creativity of obsessive, marginalized individuals – be they hermit, hobo, schizophrenic, medium or any other “outsider”.

One exhibit is made from cement and other materials by an Indian Roads Inspector. There is a room dedicated to a reclusive Chicago janitor and his narrative, panoramic paintings about seven sisters called the Vivian Girls. Fascinating stuff, rarely seen.

Indeed “outsider art” is usually not intended for public viewing. Collector and museum Founder James Brett accurately describes the venue as a ‘public museum showing extraordinary works of privacy’. Also known as Art Brut or Raw Art, this kind of self expression is rarely available for public consumption. Whatever you call it, it reminds us that a desire to create satisfies a basic human need no matter who we are.

Neuro salutes all artists – known or unknown — and encourages self expression. This weekend, pop open a NeuroSonic to help your concentration as you create your very own masterpiece.

The three pictures on the first one are the works by D. Lobanov (Лобанов). Try to google his surname – he had a very interesting theme and style.
