Mbenga’s Moment of Bliss

November 9th, 2009

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their 5 game winning streak last night as they sailed past the New Orleans Hornets 104-88 in a decisive victory. Kobe Bryant was at the top of his game, scoring 26 points in the first half, but the real star of the game was DJ Mbenga. With the Lakers’ two star big men Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum sitting on injuries, Mbenga stepped off the bench for his first start for the Lakers and surprised everyone. Mbenga made his presence felt on both ends of the court and racked up his first double double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Mbenga never touched a basketball until European basketball legend Willy Steveniers discovered him at the age of 19 as a refugee in Belgium. Mbenga worked his way up through the leagues in Belgium and eventually transitioned into the NBA where he played for the Mavericks, the Warriors and now, the Lakers. The Lakers return after a well-earned rest on Thursday with Gasol and Bynum expected to play. After Mbenga’s performance, however, they may share more of the spotlight.

We love watching basketball with a variety of Neuros. Sonic to get you up and out of your seat, cheering and Bliss, for games when you just can’t help but feel happy for a rookie like Mbenga – and Laker fans can anticipate more good things to come.
