As Indian Summer continues, a hike is a wonderful way to take advantage of the great outdoors. Take along a NeuroSport to keep you hydrated, and escape from the gridlock of the city with friends, your dog, or on your own (great for introspection). You’ll want to pop open a NeuroBliss at the top of any of these trails, and take in the beauty of your surroundings.
Here are some of our favorite hiking trails around LA.
Runyon Canyon – The Runyon Canyon Trail is an easy, 3-mile jaunt through the Hollywood Hills starting on Mulholland Drive. The popular trail offers expansive views of Hollywood, some cool Hollywood homes and the Hollywood sign!
Will Rogers State Park – Cradled between Malibu and the Valley with the trailhead just off the famous Malibu Canyon Road this hike will take you by low over hanging trees and multiple crossings of Malibu Creek. There are some great finds in the park including the original filming site of M.A.S.H., Will Roger’s famous ranch house, and 360 views of the ocean.
Griffith Park – Enter the park from Los Feliz Boulevard and hike from the base of the canyon up to the observatory — it’s not so easy but it’s worth it! Afterwards, explore the observatory that doubles as a huge astronomical museum complete with laser show.
Echo Mountain – The Sam Merrill Trail starts in the Las Flores Canyon at the head of Lake Avenue and climbs to the peak of Echo Mountain. Not only is this a beautiful hike but at the top of Echo Mountain lies the ruins of the White City, a resort built in the 1890’s by the Mount Lowe Railway. Most of the buildings are gone but the foundations and much of the antique machinery remains.
Solstice Canyon – This lesser-known trail hidden just North of Malibu just off of PCH in the Santa Monica Mountains is riddled with secrets and surprises. Sandstone ridges and naturally forming caves are easy to scramble upon and some caves have aging graffiti. This trail is rumored to have been a favorite spot of Jim Morrison in the Sixties. Uncover your own secrets along this trail!
