From November 13th-15th the Balboa Park Gymnasium in San Diego was devoid of the sounds of squeaking sneakers, bouncing basketballs, and free throw swishes. Instead the halls echoed with squealing tires, wheelchair crashes and yelling in a cacophony of different languages. Balboa Park Gymnasium hosted the 20th Annual Best of the West Quad Rugby Tournament, the longest running quad tournament in the world, with 10 teams hailing from all over the globe. Quad rugby, also called wheelchair rugby, is a fast paced, full contact sport played by quadriplegic men and women in specially built manual wheelchairs. Teammates play off each other and fight their way down the court trying to get the ball across the opposing teams goal line. NeuroSonic got the teams ready for their intensely competitive matches and NeuroBliss kept the fans cheering and happy. Neuro salutes athletes who overcome the odds and continue to compete!
